Shooting doesn't get better without technique and repetition!

  • This off-season is the time to separate yourself by working at your game!
  • Learn correct technique to work on over the summer. Don’t spend your off-season working on the wrong habits. Do things that will make you better! Learning the correct technique is critical to improving.
  •  We use video analysis to correct technique. You’ll learn to do it right!
  •  These clinics are for middle to advanced players. They’ll take skills to the next level. For basic skills see our Skills and Drills camp on June 24-27.
  • E-mail Coach Holbrook with any questions. Cindy.holbrook@uwrd.edu

BALL HANDLING WORKOUT #3

WILDCAT SUMMER BALL HANDLING CHALLENGE
WORKOUT #3
“CUPPING”
Cupping the ball means keeping your hand on the ball as long as possible without a ‘traveling’ or ‘carrying’ violation.  The longer you can keep your hand in contact with the ball, the more control you will have.  When you dribble, keep the hand relaxed and allow your hand to “cup” the ball by sliding the hand to the side and then over the top of the ball vs keeping your hand strictly on the top.  Do not allow the hand to sink below the midline of the ball otherwise you will be carrying the ball.

1 CUP BALL AS LONG AS YOU CAN (WITHOUT CARRYING OR PALMING THE BALL)  Dribble in place when practicing this skill and make sure you use each hand equally in every drill!

2  CUP & KILL (Dribble high to low)

3  IN FRONT-1 HAND (Dribble ball in a V pattern with the hand touching the ball at the top of the V with the bottom of the V being when the ball hits the ground)

4 SWING THE PURSE (Dribble the ball out to the side of your body in the same V motion, pulling an pushing the ball as if you were “swinging a purse back and forth”

5 AROUND THE LEG – 1 HAND – 2 DRIBBLES  (Dribble the ball around 1eg using only 2 dribbles)

6 AROUND THE LEG – 2 HANDS – 2 DRIBBLES (Right and Left-like figure 8)

7 AROUND THE LEG – 1 HAND – 1 DRIBBLE  (Around one leg with one dribble)

8 AROUND THE LEG – 2 HANDS – 1 DRIBBLE (Right and Left - like figure 8)

BALL HANDLING WORKOUT #2

WILDCAT SUMMER BALL HANDLING CHALLENGE
WORKOUT #2
BUILDING HAND QUICKNESS/COORDINATION

1.    ARMS STAGGERED/DROP/SWITCH:  holding ball between legs, place one hand in front and one in back, drop ball and switch hands/catch before hits ground.
2.     ARMS STAGGERED/FLIP:  same as above only now do not let ball touch ground.  Flip it up slightly and catch as you are switching hands.
3.   ARMS TOGETHER/DROP:  both hands on ball in front of body, drop between legs and catch with hands behind body.
4.   ARMS TOGETHER/FLIP:  same as above only flip ball between legs while moving hands front to back.
5.    DROP WITH RHYTHM: starting with arms staggered, drop ball between legs and catch with hands opposite, then push ball through and circle around both legs to starting postion.  Make sure to work both directions (with right hand and then left hand in front)
6.   BEHIND HEAD CLAP:  place ball at the back of the neck, let drop, clap hands and catch behind back at waist.  Goal is to not let ball drop to ground.
7.   BEHIND KNEES CLAP:  same as above only ball is placed at back of knees and catch (ball can bounce once then work towards catching ball before it hits ground)
8.   QUICK TOUCHES:  quickly push ball back and forth using fingertips in hands…..can move it up high or bring down low.

9.   THROW IT THROUGH:  bounce ball forcefully back and forth through the legs from front to back.
