WILDCAT SUMMER BALL HANDLING CHALLENGE
WORKOUT #3
“CUPPING”
Cupping the ball means keeping your hand on the ball as long as possible
without a ‘traveling’ or ‘carrying’ violation.
The longer you can keep your hand in contact with the ball, the more
control you will have. When you dribble,
keep the hand relaxed and allow your hand to “cup” the ball by sliding the hand
to the side and then over the top of the ball vs keeping your hand strictly on
the top. Do not allow the hand to sink
below the midline of the ball otherwise you will be carrying the ball.
1 CUP BALL AS LONG AS YOU CAN (WITHOUT CARRYING OR PALMING THE BALL) Dribble in place when practicing this skill
and make sure you use each hand equally in every drill!
2 CUP
& KILL (Dribble high to low)
3 IN
FRONT-1 HAND (Dribble ball in a V pattern with the hand
touching the ball at the top of the V with the bottom of the V being when the
ball hits the ground)
4 SWING THE PURSE (Dribble the ball out to the side of your body in the same V
motion, pulling an pushing the ball as if you were “swinging a purse back and
forth”
5 AROUND THE LEG – 1 HAND – 2 DRIBBLES (Dribble the ball around 1eg using only 2 dribbles)
6 AROUND THE LEG – 2 HANDS – 2 DRIBBLES (Right and Left-like figure 8)
7 AROUND THE LEG – 1 HAND – 1 DRIBBLE (Around one leg with one dribble)
8 AROUND THE LEG – 2 HANDS – 1 DRIBBLE (Right and Left - like figure 8)
